More Julie Wolf at the Mateel

I can gush a bit more here than I can over at the CockburnProject.net where I just updated the front page.

So gush I will..

Julie Wolf at Mateel Community Center

What can I say about her — she is a beautiful light, she is funny, honest, real and present. She does not make me feel uncomfortable, quite the opposite, I feel so relaxed around her. It’s a heart thing I guess. She gives (and gets) great hugs. I would love to get to know her. In her busy life, don’t know if there is time or room for that, but I hope so.

And she stole the show! The Mateel was buzzing with “Hey, I’ve seen her before, she is awesome! Wasn’t she here with Bruce Cockburn? Didn’t she used to play with Ani deFranco? She is so beautiful. She is so hot! ” You get the drift.

I hope she tours with Bruce and band later in the year. I really hope they play here at the Mateel Community Center.
I hope I get the chance to see her again. I hope we email each other.

Ok, done gushing now.

Julie Wolf at the Mateel

Ok, for those of you who may not remember all the Bruce Cockburn details, a couple of years ago now, he played here at our local Mateel Community Center with Julie Wolf.

Julie is an extraordinary musician, keyboardist, singer, player.
We met at that show and just had some fun, it was good.

Well, this year, when Bruce went into the studio to record, Julie went with him. How cool is that?!

Any way last night Russel was checking email and asked, “Do you know someone named Julie Wolf?” I’m thinking, yea I do, don’t delete!

And there she was in my in box offering comp tickets to a show she is doing with Shana Morrison (Van Morrisons’ daughter) at our Mateel Community Center this Friday, 17 March 2006.

This will be so fun to see her and hear her play. The simple fact that she remembered me enough to be able to email me is just too sweet. This woman is on the road playing with incredible people all the time. And recording her own amazing stuff.

And yes the Bruce connection is strong, I mean, that is what connected us in the first place.

I have asked her for a short interview to do later about the making of the new album with Bruce and band for the CockburnProject.
It will be great to get the insiders look at the process, and the band members are all upper crust high end musicians.

Now I just need to get the energy up to take these older bones out at night! Living in the hills is causing me to become even more reclusive, to go out even less than before, and unless it was Bruce or reggae, I never seemed to make it. This time I will. A lovely person has asked and I will go. Russel was planning on it, but it looks like he may have another commitment.

And then the sun came back!

And things are starting to dry up a bit. The road is holding its own for now, but here are a couple of pictures, which really don’t do it justice:

China Creek Road-Blue Slide Creek Road front slide 2006

The road is now only half that width, this was taken in the beginning of the storms.

Over the side into the creek a river of mud. This is still moving slowly.

In a brief break ( a few hours) of the rains last month, I boxed up my computer and brought it out to our house. Finally… no more trying to commute to town to work. The road being what it was last month was really the deciding factor. I needed to have access.

I am working on several of my sites right now,
and also a new Flickr account. This will be an ongoing project as I want to move many of the photos I have on my other sites to this account. [ related post ]

Tuesday I have appointments in Eureka, and so we will make the day of it there. It’s been a long time since we went up, and I know we won’t get all the way through our lists.

I have an appointment later in month for the ‘trigger thumb’ problems I am having. The right thumb really hurts in the night and morning. Must get it fixed. Mousing isn’t really good for it and neither is typing. Also have an appointment with and ENT guy because my tonsils and throat are just plain messed up.

Doing the Blockbuster online thing.. it’s ok, their site is very very slow on this dial up. But it’s the only way to get movies now. I hope to get satellite tv and internet this summer and maybe then I will cancel the BB thing.

Been trading a lot of live Bruce Cockburn shows at BC_Live lately. Finally being able to use the computer whenever I want has made that possible. If you are a Bruce fan, go check it out.

CockburnProject Update

Even with the limited amount of time I have here, I did manage to update the Cockburn Project last week. Bruce is on a solo tour promoting his latest cd, Speechless which is an instrumental.

I missed the one show I could have maybe gotten too, last weekend in San Fransisco. It’s just so damn far down there and Russel had no time and ….. well any way I am truly bummed as the reports from both the Humans list and BC-Live have been wonderful.
I hope he comes this way again in the summer, like maybe he will do the Kate Wolf Festival this year??

What else is new? Not much. Same old same old. I am starting to take things from the town/office house to the land on each trip.. small steps. My computer is acting a bit ‘different’ lately and so I hope to take the CPU into the guys who built it for a tune-up before I haul it all out to the house. So that won’t happen for a month of so any way.

Russel finally installed a real gate (we had had a very heavy chain gate) on the bottom of the driveway. This will be so much easier coming and going now, not having to deal with heavy, wet, muddy, rusty chain… yipee!!

Still having pressure pump/switch/bladder tank problems. Now R thinks that we need to replace the bladder tank as it isn’t working as it should. We’ll see.

We are getting a bit of rain, not nearly as much as we should this time of year, and it is also warmer than usual. I sure hope the rains come here.

And at least, for those in California who may read this… Arnold was defeated!!!

Another Birthday Past

Solfest – Bruce Cockburn

I finally had the time to put up a new front page at the Cockburn Project. I still have about a dozen or so good pictures that I will put up here and on my gallery.

Also had a birthday on the 11th.
Russel says I am finally playing with a full deck *lol*.

What other significance does ’52’ have..? Well, I was born in ’52 and there’s 52 weeks in a year, that’s about all I can think of.

We had a good day, rummage sales in Ferndale, movie (Cellular***) in Eureka and chinese dinner in Fortuna at the Hunan.

I also got a vhs tape of the Solfest show! It’s a bit shaky but the sound is good..and I used it to transcribe all the song comments for the piece I did for the Cockburn Project.

On the road

🙁

Ok, so Friday night we get home from 12 hours at Reggae, and there’s a message on the answering machine that.. Russel has an appointment with an ENT(ear-nose-throat) doctor at the VA in SF on WEDNESDAY (2 days after Reggae)..at 11AM!!

Well long story short, it’s a lot like this entry.. in that we had to go to Eureka on Tuesday for the new engine check up and a appointment at the Eureka VA. While we were there, I was thinking about how getting up at 4am on Wed to make the 11am appointment in SF..and it wasn’t making us happy.

So we decided to go home and pack and drive to Santa Rosa on Tuesday, go the SF VA on Wednesday and drive home that day…
geez we were both so fried from Reggae to have to do all that too.
And nothing was found a miss with the ENT, so we still have no answers to Russel’s pain and congestion…meanwhile his voice gets stranger and stranger every day.

We did stop on the way home in Healdsburg…lots bigger than I remembered it being, cute/upscale downtown center area.. we ate at a thai food place, Lotus Thai, that was excellent. Will have to stop there again.

We always stop at the Real Goods and Solar Living Institute for a road break in Hopland, and we will be going down there this weekend (August 21) to see Bruce Cockburn at the Solfest.

Whew!! busy busy on the road kind of month.

In between all this I am still painting at the house and we are doing lots of work to make the house more livable, cuz well, we would like to MOVE IN someday!

This and That

Bruce Cockburn at the Mateel

Tonight’s the show. Very excited. Hope to make sound check, get some photos signed and tonight get some great shots. Wish me luck.

******************

On other things, this should go in new post, but.. Russel has an appointment for a bone scan, the final test in the saga of trying to find out what the hell is wrong with him. This is on Friday again in SF, but this time I am not going. More on that later.

I updated the Portfolio page on my business website. Added a few new sites, and took a couple off.

I am very close to launching Russel’s Aikido For Kids, he just needs to give me some CONTENT! [still waiting!]

Much more tomorrow.. the after the show review.

Bruce Cockburn mode

Counting the days now until he’s here..Sunday the 22nd.

Check it out..
I put up a new front page at the Interview by Bob DoranCockburn Project. [archived to the news section now]
It was an interview by a local journalist, Bob Doran, who writes for the local North Coast Journal, about Bruce’s visit to Iraq.

Any one who comes here knows how much I love this man. He expresses my outrage at the world, he soothes my heart, he can fill me with joy and hope, his music and words can take me any where I want to go.
