It is Fall

Well, I am spending more and more time at my house in the hills. This little town house has has just become a stop over place, with the exception of my computer and refrigerator and maybe more than one tv station, I don’t miss it.

We brought, Kaya, our cat who we love, out last week. I feel she feels a captive as we won’t let her out of the house until we know she won’t run off and try to come back to town. She is handling it all very well, I could do with out the litterbox. Although I found a recyled newspaper litter that works great.

I have some ‘buggy’ pictures, but no time to work them up to post here or at my gallery, maybe next time in town.

Getting a good solar/battery power system together for the computer and lights and all is a high priority, I hope we can swing that this year. I really want to take my new computer out there with me, I may never come to town again!

I am turning off ‘comments’ on this blog for now 🙁
Spammers!! I am not here (in town) enough (like every day) to update MTBlacklist, and keep the spammers away. Last weekend I had 50 or so to deal with. (I know that isn’t much compared to many bloggers, but it took computer time that I would of rather used in other ways.) Any way if any one wants to ‘talk to me’ feel free to email me, I am sure you can figure that out!

That’s it for now, gotta go pack up all the laundry and food and ice and stuff and head out. Out to the sunny high top of the ridge wind blowing through the trees silence except for the birds and ravens ..we have a flock of wild pigeons!

At the land

Back in town for the weekend. Mostly catching up on errands, housework, laundry, but giving myself ‘quality time on the computer as well *lol*’.

I did add a few photos to my gallery, EyeSee, there’s some of the dragonfly and a couple more of the Agave. I guess the layout and look of the gallery will have to wait until I have more time, but I have more photos I would like to get up and they won!

The week went well, no major problems with any of the systems. We are using a generator for power, and it is louder than I would like and so we don’t use it all day and all night. I made some progress in the house with shelving and finding homes for stuff. It’s funny in that, there are no cabinets as yet, creative storage is the key here.

I started pulling the dead stuff out of the garden.. we still are harvesting tomatoes. The weather has been great, high 80’s and with a breeze in the afternoon and cool (low 50s) nights. Clear as a bell too with a full moon coming on…moonlight streaming through the bedroom window.

I started the huge process of cleaning out and organizing the storage shed. The shed was the first thing built on this site. It’s been there for 10 years, and it holds 10 years of stuff that wouldn’t fit in town (remember 1 room town house), or flea market finds that I knew I would use one day…and I did find a few things to actually bring into the house. This project will take weeks I am sure.

Mainly it’s quiet there. There is stuff to do at every turn and look, so it is hard for me to relax. I was busier than I would of been in town, even with out my computer. I get one tv channel (nbc) which has mostly lousy early evening programing. I do have a vcr/dvd combo on order at the local radio shack, I need to check into that.

I miss my cat, Kaya.

Kaya my kitty

We’re not settled enough to bring her out there yet. Russel is spending time in both places, he is on the road a lot with teaching at the schools and bringing me ICE for the ice chests as we don’t have a refrigerator there yet either. Nor do I have a vehicle with me, Russel needs the truck for work and the ’71 VW bus would shake apart after just a couple of runs down the road, so those things are high on my list when work picks up this year.

Autumn Equinox is coming

It’s just around the corner. We have had a little rain, very little compared to what has been happening in the south and east. But just the same it is a sign of things to come… the winter rains.

I won’t be around here much at all, certainly not every day, ha! like I am now *lol* But much less, hopefully with more to say.

We’ve been working hard all summer to get the house in a much more livable space and I am going to spend a lot of time there this winter, perhaps the posts that get put here will actually have tales of homesteading and living off the grid. I hope that soon I will be able to bring my computer out there with me…then I may never come to town again!

This is a little something I took in the summer, never got around to uploading the rest of these or other photos I have to my gallery, which lays fallow until time presents itself, as does this blog redesign and the redesign of my other sites.
Hope you enjoy it!

Dragonfly looking at me

Prezident Brown (google him!) is coming out on tour again, it looks like he may swing close enough to be able to go see him… that would be really cool. He’s playing in my old stomping grounds of Bolinas and Fairfax…that would just be too fun to go to, but there is no chance of getting to the bay area again any time soon ;(

I will try and get some good interior shots of the house with fresh paint with my Canon G3, it’s flash leaves much to be desired, and I don’t have the add on one yet.

Oh, and one other thing… a while back a certain blog woman posted a link to a word game, Weboggle. She did warn that is was addicting… I sent it to a friend. My darling husband found the link in the sent mails and now HE IS ADDICTED!

Geez, one more game to take his time away!!!

Another Birthday Past

Solfest – Bruce Cockburn

I finally had the time to put up a new front page at the Cockburn Project. I still have about a dozen or so good pictures that I will put up here and on my gallery.

Also had a birthday on the 11th.
Russel says I am finally playing with a full deck *lol*.

What other significance does ’52’ have..? Well, I was born in ’52 and there’s 52 weeks in a year, that’s about all I can think of.

We had a good day, rummage sales in Ferndale, movie (Cellular***) in Eureka and chinese dinner in Fortuna at the Hunan.

I also got a vhs tape of the Solfest show! It’s a bit shaky but the sound is good..and I used it to transcribe all the song comments for the piece I did for the Cockburn Project.

Homestead Update

In other life, I am done with the major painting of the interior, still have touch ups to do and certain access areas.

We got the prefab (cheap) 10′ counter and sink installed last week in the kitchen. Still have to hook up to the drain on that.

Because we don’t have real cabinets I am having to do the curtain thing around the bottom –ugh– but Hey! ya do what ya gotta do. Having a working sink in the kitchen it worth it!

The main room floor is still not painted and it doesn’t look like that will happen this summer either. We have made a lot of head way towards living there more full time this winter though.

I will be there a lot, without the computer for at least the first few months, so that isn’t something I look forward too on that level, but again, it’s what has to happen to move things along.

Any way..sorry it took so long to post. I am just fried and tired and hormonal and busy.

Solfest ’04

August 21 found us down the road again to Hopland and Solfest.
It was a great festival with tons of learning exhibits if you were new to or just beginning to think about solar energy or sustainable living. We mostly browsed the booths and hung out by the pond in the shade

Pond at the Solar Living Center in Hopland

until Bruce came on stage.

Bruce Cockburn at Solfest in Hopland

It was a good show, it was hot and dusty and he coughed quite a bit. He had lots to say and I did take notes. I am in the process of writing them up for the Cockburn Project (www.cockburnproject.net), but I just haven’t had time to do much on the computer this past week or so.

On the road

🙁

Ok, so Friday night we get home from 12 hours at Reggae, and there’s a message on the answering machine that.. Russel has an appointment with an ENT(ear-nose-throat) doctor at the VA in SF on WEDNESDAY (2 days after Reggae)..at 11AM!!

Well long story short, it’s a lot like this entry.. in that we had to go to Eureka on Tuesday for the new engine check up and a appointment at the Eureka VA. While we were there, I was thinking about how getting up at 4am on Wed to make the 11am appointment in SF..and it wasn’t making us happy.

So we decided to go home and pack and drive to Santa Rosa on Tuesday, go the SF VA on Wednesday and drive home that day…
geez we were both so fried from Reggae to have to do all that too.
And nothing was found a miss with the ENT, so we still have no answers to Russel’s pain and congestion…meanwhile his voice gets stranger and stranger every day.

We did stop on the way home in Healdsburg…lots bigger than I remembered it being, cute/upscale downtown center area.. we ate at a thai food place, Lotus Thai, that was excellent. Will have to stop there again.

We always stop at the Real Goods and Solar Living Institute for a road break in Hopland, and we will be going down there this weekend (August 21) to see Bruce Cockburn at the Solfest.

Whew!! busy busy on the road kind of month.

In between all this I am still painting at the house and we are doing lots of work to make the house more livable, cuz well, we would like to MOVE IN someday!

Survived Reggae .. again!

Fridays line up of music was quite good…very roots for the most part.
I did come home (no camping on site for me!) early so I would have the energy to do 2 more full days and nights.

Saturday, with a few exceptions, the music was NOT roots, and made me want to leave several times.

Sunday was a mix, but Michael Franti and Spearhead made it all worth while, I need to really check out some of his music thoroughly. [did that.. he shares my player with Bruce!]
And there is a good write up with pictures at the
North Coast Journal by Bob Doran and more pictures and info at Mateel.

Especially fun was meeting and hanging with Joellen and her tribe of friends. I wish I could remember every ones names!! I hope those of you who got my email addy will keep in touch.

Pictures coming..sometime soon!
